A Vancouver native, Katherine Evans has grown to become the ultimate boss babe and expert in her field by maintaining a kind and supportive attitude toward others. In an average day, Katherine wears many hats – from running her own consulting business, KSE CONSULTING, to managing OPUS Hotel in her role as Vice President of one of Canada’s top boutique hotels.
Despite the busy lifestyle that this babe leads, she has also found the time to help us evolve into the #TEAMBRUNETTE that we are today by providing us with HR support and guidance, as well as aiding us in creating our core belief system of assuming positive intent. We’re so thankful for Katherine’s constant love and support of Brunette the Label, and we’re so excited to introduce her to you!
What does babes supporting babes mean to you?
AAAH the most! Relative to work, career, ambition and opportunity, this is the ultimate. In a competitive landscape, with all that comes with being a woman in today’s workforce, it’s so incredibly refreshing to be supported by other women! On a personal level, it’s the women in my life who make me laugh and cry on a daily basis.
If you could choose your nickname, what would it be?
Kath … it’s who I am to my closest peeps.
What’s your spirit animal?
I’m the Butterfly. Related to my love for the beauty of life’s continuous unfolding.
What’s the most unexpected thing you have in your purse or wallet?
A carrot for my horse.
Tell us about a time where you were faced with a situation that you could have been unkind, but chose to be a babe instead?
These opportunities come up all the time. We’re so positioned to judge all the time. I’ve always been taught about “being kind” by my mother, and it still stands strong. And is always better.
What product would you seriously stockpile if you found out they weren’t selling anymore?
ORIBE hair perfume. It smells like a windy day in Hawaii.
If you had a yacht, what would be the name of it?
Caylee. My grandfathers boat was Caylee, and we have one in the family now. (boat not yacht!)
What was the best piece of advice you received when you were first starting your career?
If you spend your time worrying about what everyone else thinks about you, you’ll never make a sound decision. Stick to what you believe is right, and don’t worry about all the other people and their opinions.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received now that you’re in your career?
Don’t try to be good at everything. It’s impossible. Stick to what you’re good at, and do it really well.
Red, white, or rose?
Red. From Tuscany.
When I dance I look like….
I’m having so much fun.
Who do you channel when you’re about to do something that scares you?
We have this thing in showjumping, before we go into the ring. Whatever makes us strong. For Miram and I and our trainer LJ, we’re Beyoncé.
What’s your favourite destination to visit?
I love France, small villages and vast countryside. Nothing is cuter or more delicious than a bistro in some far off town.
What’s your favourite meal to eat?
My mum’s sunday night chicken. Roasted, spatchcock, you name it I love it.
What’s the most fulfilling part of your career?
I have people whose lives I’ve been able to touch in my career. I’m still in touch with so many of those people today. Nothing gives me greater pleasure or happiness to hear from them years and years later. Being a leader to young, smart, talented people and watching them grow into successful people is the best.
Where’s your favourite place to draw inspiration from?
Most of all I’m inspired by other people. Their stories, their wins, their lives.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Eating an entire bag of sour wine gums at the movies, every time. (Oh, and two bags of popcorn.)
What quality are you working on yourself right now?
My listening skills, always.
What’s the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome in business?
Truly understanding the meaning of patience and perseverance. Good things come to those who wait and work through what feels hard and impossible.
Coffee meeting or drinks meeting?
Both. I love a great meeting over coffee or a tea.
If you’re going out for a cocktail you’d order…
A glass of rosé or an old fashioned, depends on the time of year and geographical location. Or a beer actually, especially at Après ski.
If you had unlimited budget for 2 hours shopping where would you go?
What is your favorite movie?
Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
